How To Measure For New Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring do-it-yourself home one day is simple. Laminate flooring requires little care or maintenance and is one of the easiest floors to install. Before shopping for flooring, you need to know how to purchase. This is done through a simple process of measurement and basic math.

How to Measure for Flooring

Before measuring, take a pencil, paper, calculator and tape measure. It is best to use a calculator, even if the math is simple, to avoid making mistakes!

The formula to determine square footage is the same for meters or feet. The measure for a room that is square or rectangular starts measuring the length of the room. If the room is a perfect square, it is advisable to measure two different walls anyway - just to be sure!. Next, measure the width of the room and write.

Odd shaped rooms measure

Odd shaped rooms make measurement more difficult. If most of the piece is a rectangle, but there is a small room or a door, it measures into two sections. Measure the room as a separate rectangle and measure much like a second rectangle. Write it separately, do the calculation separately and add the square footage together to get the total for the room. If you have some available graph paper, drawing on the floor plan would be very beneficial.

Add additional

Because there may be a flaw in an ugly piece of flooring or made a mistake cutting, additional floor is often necessary. After finding the area of a room, add 10 percent in total. For example, 10 percent of 120 square feet = 12. Just add 120 + 12 132 square feet of floor and buy for that part. Do this for each piece measured, add the totals together, and take the total square footage of the store. At the store, check the square footage available in each package floor. Divide the area of the room by the square footage of the package to determine how many boxes of soil to buy. Whew!

To complete the project laminate flooring, you may end caps to cover where different floor coverings meet, reducing to adjust where the different floor levels are found, T-molding for the door trim or beads to cover the expansion joint. If the laminate is covered concrete, waterproof membrane (PMP) is required. Take photos of each piece to be struck, including doors, stairs, and sliding glass doors. See photos in a professional floor to the shop and discuss the necessary extras.
